Watch it fall like a shooting star then race to see who can reach it first. Throw the star as hard as you can into the tall grasses. To play Starseek, you take three short sticks, tie it with a long scarlet ribbon to make a six-point star with a flowing tail. The story begins with a game of Starseek between rabbit younglings, Heather and Picket. Fans of the series will know what I’m talking about while I hope to entice others with my cryptic comments to hop in and join us on the rabbit trail. Because of that, some parts of my review will be, out of necessity, vague. So before you take that first bite, you want to ask do you want to eat the whole nine course meal? Cause I can think of a few books, movies and TV series, where it was good until it wasn’t. Today I review all nine books because I reckon there is a good chance after reading the first book, you will want to read the second and pretty soon one book becomes all nine. Bucks are male rabbits, does are female rabbits and warrens are rabbit homes. That’s nine books in seven years to the delight of bucks and does in warrens all over. Along the way, he wrote the companion trilogy “The Green Ember Archer” and also Book 1 and 2 of Tales of Old Natalia. The Green Emberis a tale of two rabbit siblings who learn a lot about friendship, bravery, and sacrifice. ![]() “What do I always tell you? ‘Not enough salt is an in-salt,’ and ‘Too much salt is an as-salt!'” But before we knew it, we’d be laughing again at some of the humor cleverly inserted throughout the dialogue: Some paragraphs moved my girls and I nearly to tears. The tale kept the entire family entertained–from my husband down to our 3-year-old son (just when we thought he wasn’t listening any more he’d pipe up with a question about the characters or a worried comment about how he hoped someone would be okay). And our hearts warmed as the siblings fought to protect each other, against all odds. We were instantly transported to the grassy field where Picket and Heather were playing “Starseek.” Joel Clarkson’s superb narration kept us on the edge of our seats as they encountered danger after danger. Our family first experienced The Green Ember in audiobook form on a 2,000 mile road trip earlier this month. ![]() Smith calls it “a new story with an old soul.” And the moment you step into Heather and Picket’s world you’re struck by the very timeless quality of the story. And these rabbits have swords.ĭescribing his debut novel, S.D. There is Pat the Bunny, The Velveteen Rabbit, Peter Rabbit, Peter Cottontail, Br’er Rabbit, and Uncle Wiggily to name just a few. But these classic children’s stories about rabbits have a new companion that numbers among our family’s very favorites: The Green Emberby S.D. I suppose stories about rabbits are as old as they are beloved.
